From the saddle, Deerwood Park Communities is a horseback rider's dream with trails and scenery galore. Vacation with your horse! Stalls and trailer accommodations are available - please inquire. Within minutes, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area and Grayson Highlands State Park offer outstanding opportunities for horseback riding. Horses are welcome on more than 150 miles of multiple user trails including New River, Virginia Creeper, and the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail.

Guests and residents of Deerwood Park Communities will find it natural and easy to get out of their house after dinner, or before breakfast, and amble our many multi-use trails suitable for pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian use. The New River State Park borders Deerwood Park Communities and offers endless opportunities for hiking. Grayson Highlands State Park, Jefferson National Forest, the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway are all just a short distance. Whether you like biking up a mountainside or taking in the scenery down a quiet back road, you've come to the right place.

Cast your line from the banks of the river and reel in tonight's dinner. The New River provides some of the best small mouth and redeye bass fishing in the region. Trout fishing is excellent in the smaller tributaries, which are stocked regularly with rainbow and brown trout. Just want to fish for fun? Grab your fishing pole and cast your line in one or our three catch and release ponds. Feed the Canada Geese while you're there - they will love you for it.

Picnic areas are available throughout Deerwood Park Communities in our many common areas designated for your enjoyment. Choose a beautiful gazebo by the pond or high upon the ridge where you can see for miles or maybe a remote picnic table along the creek where you can get your feet wet is more your style.
